"Nil Battey Sannata" is a love story about two childhood friends, made by one person. The first season of the show was released as a series of 5 minute episodes on YouTube and ran from November 2014 to January 2015. The story is semi-autobiographical, written by the creator's close childhood friend, who is also credited as a writer on the show. Season One of Nil Battey Sannata was released on Netflix in March 2016 under Indian Original name "Nil Battey Sannata".The story begins with two children named Asha and Umar (inspired by Asha and Harinder) who got bullied by their classmates due to their parents' professions such as professional cloth merchant (Umar's father), and tailor (Asha's father). They wouldn't even go to school, always skipping classes. Their parents tell them not to worry, but the children themselves feel bad. They decide to just go for a walk around the city and get a job. Umar ends up getting a job at a library, while Asha gets a job at a bank.They then meet each other again in their adult lives and get married to each other's best friends who even helped them get their jobs... All because of their love for movies!

The show became popular with its social message of how education is important in life, even if one comes from a humble background, and should be given the same opportunities as any one from an affluent family.
